Writer's Block is one of those pests that requires active extermination. But if you've felt stuck for weeks, months, or even years with nothing to write about, this article could be just what you need to jump-start your creativity. Writer's Block is something that plagues all writers at some point in their career - whether it's an occasional hiccup or a constant battle. You look at the page and you can't seem to think of a single thing to write. It's frustrating and maddening, but it happens to everyone. So if you can't seem to find a way out of it, don't worry - we've got your back with these tips! Step 1: Eat something There's nothing like a sugar rush or a trip to the cupcake shop to get your creative juices flowing. However, Writer's Block often happens in the wee hours of the morning when you're tired, cranky and hungry. So why not start with getting something in your stomach. Don't eat something that will make you sleepy (i.e., donuts or ice cream). Eating will help turn off your brain and get your blood flowing. Don't know what to eat? Some ideas: 1. A high-protein breakfast such as eggs, Greek yogurt with berries and omega-3 rich nuts and seeds. 2. Small snack of turkey and cheese sandwich, apple slices with peanut butter, or a huge bowl of granola cereal with almond milk. 3. Guiltless snack: 1 chocolate bar or a cup of candy (you know the ones we're talking about). Step 2: Make it fun Sometimes Writer's Block happens because you are subconsciously afraid to write something because it may not be good enough or you've never done it before. So if you can't think of what to write, start by defining your relationship with writing. Do you love it? Have you always wanted to write? Or, are you afraid of trying something new and embarrassing yourself? Whatever the case may be, take a risk and try something that scares you. Once you do that, then it's time to start writing! Step 3: Take a deep breath When we experience Writer's Block we become paralyzed and can't think of anything to write about. This is because we become self-conscious and shy away from attempting something new or taking a risk. So turn this around! Become more confident in yourself by taking the first step of finding an idea for your article. Step 4: Be yourself "We all write in our own voices, and we should be proud of the voices we have." - YA author Karen McManus. If possible, try to write about things that pertain to your life and interests - writing about what you know is more authentic than writing about something that doesn't even interest you. Step 5: Don't beat yourself up Sometimes you just don't have the energy or inspiration after a long week to turn it around and find an idea for your article. Don't beat yourself up for it either! Just take a break or step away from the computer and try again later on. eccc085e13
